TREATMENT OF FOREHEAD CONTOUR
Back to treatmentsTREATMENT OF FOREHEAD CONTOUR
In the forehead area, it's common to only focus on treating wrinkles, while the contour of the forehead is often overlooked. However, facial beauty is defined in part by these contours. The contour of the forehead is one of the factors that influences how the overall appearance of the face is perceived—whether it appears more masculine or feminine, stern or friendly. In this particular area, there can be a loss of volume in the skin and underlying tissue, leading to drooping of the eyebrows, prominence of the bony ridges around the eyes, or an irregular contour of the forehead.
Instead of a convex forehead contour, certain areas can become concave, causing visual inconsistency and aesthetic undesirability. Treatment with hyaluronic acid helps to restore lost volume and achieve a more harmonious appearance in the forehead.
What is hyaluronan or hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid, often referred to as hyaluronan, is a natural component of connective tissue found in the skin, as well as in various other tissues throughout the body, including joint cartilage and the vitreous body of the eye. Being a naturally occurring substance in the body, it is highly compatible. Therefore, an allergy test is not required before undergoing hyaluronic acid treatment. This gel, composed of sugar molecules, has the ability to retain a significant amount of water, providing the skin with much-needed moisture and contributing to its firmness.
Over time, the body's production of hyaluronan naturally decreases, leading to a loss of skin elasticity and structure. To address this, hyaluron can be introduced externally through injections or the application of a serum. This aids in filling facial lines, wrinkles, and contour imperfections. SKINIC REJUVENATION CENTER in Zurich specializes in hyaluronic acid treatments, among other services.
How is the hyaluronan used?
Hyaluronan gel is a filler substance that is injected above or low to the muscle-fiber sheet. Fine injection needles or blunt microcannulas are utilized for this purpose. You can envision the latter as a form of micro-keyhole technique. Because the very fine cannula has a rounded and blunt tip, it is an extremely tissue-preserving method with minimal potential for side effects. Additionally, several regions can be treated from a single or multiple entry-point, which is particularly advantageous for combination treatments. The specific approach used depends on the initial assessment, the treated area, and the doctor's options.
Do other methods help?
As we age, facial contours shift and are accompanied by a loss of volume in both the skin and subcutaneous tissues. This phenomenon is part of the natural physiological aging process. A surgical procedure like a forehead lift can address the root causes of forehead issues and also correct eyebrow descent. However, this option may not be suitable for all individuals due to the associated risks of anesthesia and surgery.
Creams, often considered as an alternative, primarily focus on skincare but do not effectively compensate for the loss of volume. Hyaluronic injections on the other hand, offer a lifting and stabilizing effect on the subcutaneous tissues.
How long does the hyaluronan effect last?
The effect of hyaluronic acid on the chin usually lasts for 9 to 12 months. With products of the latest generation, it is possible to achieve a significantly more extended effectiveness period of about 18 months. However, if you received an standard grade hyaluronan filler for your chin, we recommend a second treatment after 6 to 8 months. After that, the active period is more extensive, as well.
The pain
The treatment is almost painless, thanks to an anaesthetic technique developed in-house. Alternatively, a potent anaesthetic cream can be applied instead.
Risks and side-effects
Local reactions such as redness and swelling are completely normal side effects of an injection. When using a gentle treatment technique and optimal preparation (no intake of blood-thinning medications), bruising is relatively rare. The same applies to local infections.
Treating a hollow forehead lines with hyaluronic acid can be quite challenging due to the unique anatomy and, notably, the circulatory conditions in the area.
Post-procedure restrictions
You can return to work and other social activities immediately after the treatment. While you don't need to abstain from moderate physical activities, it's advisable to avoid high-intensity sports, swimming goggles, saunas, spas, facial massages and power yoga within the first 24 hours after treatment. Air travel is unrestricted, but please enjoy the sun only in moderation. Makeup and care products are permitted. (Our recommendation: Use new and unopened products, freshly cleaned brushes and new sponges.)
Pre-procedure preparation
For hygiene reasons, please refrain from wearing makeup, creams, or powder prior to the treatment. Additionally, inform us if you have taken any blood-thinning medications or similar substances in the last 10 days.
