SCULPTING THE JAWLINE
Back to treatmentsSSCULPTING THE JAWLINE
The demand for a well-defined transition between neck and face is increasing among aesthetically minded people. A well-defined facial contour makes you look younger and fresher. With advancing age, the connective tissue, the volume and the elasticity decrease. The facial proportions shift, and the classic 'sagging effect' occurs. The sagging of the soft tissues in the middle of the face affects the lower part of the face as well. This often results in sagging jowls, which can make the entire lower jawline appear droopy and undefined.
With the injection of hyaluronan, the lower jawline is contoured and accentuated. Additionally, chin augmentation can also be performed in combination (for more information, please refer to the section on chin augmentation).
The contouring or filling of the jawline is very trendy and is gaining popularity among both younger female and male clients.
What is hyaluronan?
Hyaluronic acid, often referred to as hyaluronan, is a natural component of the connective tissue found in the skin and various other body tissues, such as joint fluid, cartilage and the vitreous body of the eye. Because it is a natural substance produced by the body, it is very well-tolerated. Prior to hyaluronic acid treatment, there is no need for an allergy test. Hyaluronan has a high water-binding capacity, providing the skin with moisture and contributing to its firmness. Over time, the body's own production of hyaluronic acid decreases, leading to a loss of skin elasticity and support. Hyaluronic acid can be introduced from the outside to fill and soften facial lines, wrinkles, or contour defects.
How is hyaluronan used as jawline filler?
Hyaluronan gel is a filler substance that is injected into the deeper layers of connective tissue. Fine injection needles or blunt microcannulas are utilized for this purpose. You can envision the latter as a form of micro-keyhole technique. Because the very fine cannula has a rounded and blunt tip, it is an extremely tissue-preserving method with minimal potential for side effects. Additionally, several regions can be treated from a single entry-point, which is particularly advantageous for combination treatments. The specific approach used depends on the initial assessment, the treated area, and the doctor's options.
How long does the hyaluronan effect last with jawline filler?
The effect of hyaluronic acid on the chin usually lasts for 9 to 12 months. With products of the latest generation, it is possible to achieve a significantly more extended effectiveness period of about 18 months. However, if you received an standard grade hyaluronan filler for your chin, we recommend a second treatment after 6 to 8 months. After that, the active period is more extensive, as well.
The pain
The dermal filler is administered using fine needle or cannulas. Most people compare the sensation to that of an insect sting. Customers who have previously undergone acupuncture treatments often find the injections to be significantly less painful. In pain-sensitive patients, we can administer a highly effective numbing cream or local anesthetic injection. As a result, the treatment is relatively painless.
Risks and side effects
Local reactions such as redness and swelling are completely normal side effects of an injection. When using a gentle treatment technique and optimal preparation (no intake of blood-thinning medications), bruising is relatively rare. The same applies to local infections.
Follow-up and post-treatment
After 10 to 14 days, you should come in for a follow-up appointment so that the doctor can assess the result and, if necessary, provide additional treatment. This is not associated with any additional costs.
Post-procedure restrictions
You can return to work and other social activities immediately after the treatment. While you don't need to abstain from moderate physical activities, it's advisable to avoid high-intensity sports, swimming goggles, saunas, spas, facial massages and power yoga within the first 24 hours after treatment. Air travel is unrestricted, but please enjoy the sun only in moderation. Makeup and care products are permitted. (Our recommendation: Use new and unopened products, freshly cleaned brushes and new sponges.)
Pre-procedure preparation
For hygiene reasons, please refrain from wearing makeup, creams, or powder prior to the treatment. Additionally, inform us if you have taken any blood-thinning medications or similar substances in the last 10 days.
