Vertical lines in the upper and lower lip area are called smoker's wrinkles; but even non-smokers can develop these vertical lines on their lips. At first, these are only visible during movement.
Over the years, lip lines tend to become more pronounced and deepen, if no action is taken. Usually, this process is gradual and only becomes noticeable when applying lipstick causes the lip's outline to blur or when face powder settles in these lines. Fortunately, there are effective treatment options available to remove lip wrinkles.
Lip wrinkles - botulinum or hyaluronan?
Typically, lip wrinkle treatment is carried out using hyaluronic acid. Only in cases of very mild conditions and suitability can the area be treated with botulinum.
How is hyaluronan used for lip wrinkles?
Hyaluronan gel is a filler substance that is injected into the skin or the deeper layers of connective tissue. Fine injection needles or blunt microcannulas are utilized for this purpose. You can envision the latter as a form of micro-keyhole technique. Because the very fine cannula has a rounded and blunt tip, it is an extremely tissue-preserving method with minimal potential for side effects. The specific approach used depends on the initial assessment, the treated area, and the doctor's options.
How long does the hyaluronan effect last?
Experience shows that the degradation process is faster in the initial treatment compared to subsequent treatments. In most cases, the resuluts after the initial treatment last for 6 to 10 months. However, due to remodeling processes in the connective tissue, a longer-lasting result can also occur right from the beginning.
How painful is the injection of lip wrinkles?
The treatment is almost painless, thanks to an anaesthetic technique developed in-house. Alternatively, a potent anaesthetic cream can be applied instead.
Risks and side effects
It's important to mention mild swelling and bruising. Bruising can occur with both blunt and sharp treatment techniques. By properly compressing the treated area, this side effect can typically be effectively managed.
Follow-up and post-treatment
We recommend a follow-up appointment two weeks after the initial treatment. If a follow-up treatment is necessary, there will be no additional costs.
Post-procedure restrictions
Since swelling after the treatment is generally moderate, you should be socially presentable and able to return to work the next day. If you experience significant swelling, it's advisable to avoid sports, saunas, spa visits, and massages during this time. Minor bruises can usually be concealed with makeup. For more pronounced bruises, the application of a heparin cream is recommended to facilitate faster absorption.
Pre-procedure preparation
For hygiene reasons, please refrain from wearing makeup, creams, or powder prior to the treatment. Additionally, inform us if you have taken any blood-thinning medications or similar substances in the last 10 days.
