GET RID OF NASOLABIAL FOLD

The fold between the nose and the mouth is called the nasolabial fold. It starts right at the nostril, forming a small dimple there, which sometimes continues as a line or deep crease towards the corners of the mouth. It can give a stern or tired appearance and becomes more pronounced with age.

The primary cause of these lines is the sagging of the mid-face. Factors such as skin quality, facial expressions, weight fluctuations, and lifestyle can influence the depth of the nasolabial folds between the nose and mouth.

Hyaluronic acid can be used to fill in nasolabial folds. This can lift the cheeks and reduce the pressure on the nasolabial folds. Nasolabial folds are among the most commonly treated wrinkles with hyaluronan (fillers).

What is hyaluronan or hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid, often referred to as hyaluronan, is a natural component of the connective tissue found in the skin and various other body tissues, such as joint fluid, cartilage and the vitreous body of the eye. Because it is a natural substance produced by the body, it is very well-tolerated. Prior to hyaluronic acid treatment, there is no need for an allergy test. Hyaluronan has a high water-binding capacity, providing the skin with moisture and contributing to its firmness. Over time, the body's own production of hyaluronic acid decreases, leading to a loss of skin elasticity and support. Hyaluronic acid can be introduced from the outside to fill and soften facial lines, wrinkles, or contour defects.

HOW IS HYALURONIC ACID USED FOR NASOLABIAL FOLD?

Hyaluronan gel is a filler substance that is injected into the skin or the deeper layers of connective tissue. Fine injection needles or blunt microcannulas are utilized for this purpose. You can envision the latter as a form of micro-keyhole technique. Because the very fine cannula has a rounded and blunt tip, it is an extremely tissue-preserving method with minimal potential for side effects. Additionally, several regions can be treated from a single entry-point, which is particularly advantageous for combination treatments. The specific approach used depends on the initial assessment, the treated area, and the doctor's options.

NASOLABIAL FOLD – WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?

The principal cause of progressively deeper nasolabial folds is the sagging of the midface. This is a biological and mechanical process. Lifting the midface through a surgical procedure treats the root cause of the nasolabial folds and provides the most effective solution. However, this option may not be suitable for all individuals due to the risks associated with anaesthesia and surgery. Injecting the nasolabial fold is also associated with lower costs.

The injection with hyaluronic acid, unlike an anti-wrinkle cream, has a lifting and stabilizing effect on the subcutaneous tissue. Like any treatment, this one also has its limitations. You can obtain comprehensive information about it from your doctor during the consultation and information session.

How long does the hyaluronan effect last?

The effect of hyaluronic acid on the nasolabial folds usually lasts for 9 to 12 months. A significantly longer lasting result is not uncommon. However, we recommend undergoing a second treatment after 6 to 8 months, as the treatment interval is often much longer after that.

The pain

In order to inject the nasolabial folds, the dermal filler is administered using fine needles. Most people compare the sensation to that of an insect sting. Customers who have previously undergone acupuncture treatments often find the injections to be significantly less painful. In pain-sensitive patients, we can administer a highly effective numbing cream or local anesthetic injection. As a result, the treatment is relatively painless.

Risks and side effects

Local reactions such as redness and swelling are completely normal side effects of an injection. When using a gentle treatment technique and optimal preparation (no intake of blood-thinning medications), bruising is relatively rare. The same applies to local infections.

Follow-up and post-treatment

After 10 to 14 days, you should come in for a follow-up appointment so that the doctor can assess the result and, if necessary, provide additional treatment. This is not associated with any additional costs.

Post-procedure restrictions

You can return to work and other social activities immediately after the treatment. While you don't need to abstain from moderate physical activities, it's advisable to avoid high-intensity sports, swimming goggles, saunas, spas, facial massages and power yoga within the first 24 hours after treatment. Air travel is unrestricted, but please enjoy the sun only in moderation. Makeup and care products are permitted. (Our recommendation: Use new and unopened products, freshly cleaned brushes and new sponges.)

Pre-procedure preparation

For hygiene reasons, please refrain from wearing makeup, creams, or powder prior to the treatment. Additionally, inform us if you have taken any blood-thinning medications or similar substances in the last 10 days.
