Hollow temple contour

Over the years, the "beauty triangle" around the temples diminishes. The skin in this area is delicate and has only minimal subcutaneous fatty tissue. Consequently, there is often significant volume loss, leading to a sunken and bony appearance of the face, which can be associated with an unhealthy look. The hollowing of the temples results in a shortened appearance of the lateral eyebrows when looking straight ahead. It can also lead to a lowering of the lateral eyebrows, causing unattractive facial asymmetries. However, a beautiful appearance is defined by smooth and harmonious lines, which is why the temple region is crucial. These issues can be effectively addressed with highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid. Since this area requires expertise, it should only be treated by a specialist.

What is hyaluronan or hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid, often referred to as hyaluronan, is a natural component of connective tissue found in the skin, as well as in various other tissues throughout the body, including joint cartilage and the vitreous body of the eye. Being a naturally occurring substance in the body, it is highly compatible. Therefore, an allergy test is not required before undergoing hyaluronic acid treatment. This gel, composed of sugar molecules, has the ability to retain a significant amount of water, providing the skin with much-needed moisture and contributing to its firmness.

Over time, the body's production of hyaluronan naturally decreases, leading to a loss of skin elasticity and structure. To address this, hyaluronan can be introduced externally through injections or the application of a serum. This aids in filling facial lines, wrinkles, and contour imperfections. SKINIC REJUVENATION CENTER in Zurich specializes in hyaluronic acid treatments, among other services.

How is the hyaluronan used?

Hyaluronan gel is a filler substance that is injected into the deeper layers of connective tissue or on the bone. Fine injection needles or blunt microcannulas are utilized for this purpose. You can envision the latter as a form of micro-keyhole technique. Because the very fine cannula has a rounded and blunt tip, it is an extremely tissue-preserving method with minimal potential for side effects. Additionally, several regions can be treated from a single entry-point, which is particularly advantageous for combination treatments. The specific approach used depends on the initial assessment, the treated area, and the doctor's options.

Do other methods help?

As we age, facial contours shift and are accompanied by a loss of volume in both the skin and subcutaneous tissues. This phenomenon is part of the natural physiological aging process.

Creams, often considered as an alternative, primarily focus on skincare but do not effectively compensate for the loss of volume. On the other hand, hyaluronic injections offer a solution for a lasting correction of a bony facial structure. Nevertheless, due to the particular anatomy, particularly the path of blood vessels, it is advisable for this procedure to be carried out exclusively by a specialist.

How long does the hyaluronan effect last?

The effect of hyaluronic acid on the chin usually lasts for 12 to 18 months. With products of the latest generation, it is possible to achieve a significantly more extended effectiveness period of about 18 months. However, if you received an standard grade hyaluronan filler for your chin, we recommend a second treatment after 6 to 8 months. After that, the active period is more extensive, as well.

The pain

The treatment is almost painless, thanks to an anaesthetic technique developed in-house. Alternatively, a potent anaesthetic cream can be applied instead.

Risks and side effects

Local reactions such as redness and swelling are entirely normal side effects of an injection. Bruising is rare when a gentle treatment technique is used and preparation is optimal (such as avoiding blood-thinning medications). The same applies to local infections when good hygiene standards are maintained. In the first few days after the treatment, the veins in the temple area may become slightly more visible. During the same phase, there may be a temporary urge to yawn. This typically resolves on its own without the need for further measures.

The treatment of hollow temple contours with hyaluronan is highly demanding and requires an experienced and skilled doctor. Hyaluronan is injected into the skin tissue in a gentle and precise manner using specialized injection techniques.

Follow-up and post-treatment

After 10 to 14 days, you should come in for a follow-up appointment so that the doctor can assess the result and, if necessary, provide additional treatment. This is not associated with any additional costs.

Post-procedure restrictions

You can return to work and other social activities immediately after the treatment. While you don't need to abstain from moderate physical activities, it's advisable to avoid high-intensity sports, swimming goggles, saunas, spas, facial massages and power yoga within the first 24 hours after treatment. Air travel is unrestricted, but please enjoy the sun only in moderation. Makeup and care products are permitted. (Our recommendation: Use new and unopened products, freshly cleaned brushes and new sponges.)

Pre-procedure preparation

For hygiene reasons, please refrain from wearing makeup, creams, or powder prior to the treatment. Additionally, inform us if you have taken any blood-thinning medications or similar substances in the last 10 days.
